24 Jun: God Opens the Door

My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 12:5–10

When author and evangelist Becky Pippert lived in Ireland, she wanted so much to share the good news of Jesus with Heather, the woman who had done her nails for two years. But Heather never seemed interested in spiritual things, and Becky didn’t know how to begin the conversation. Before one appointment, she prayed and asked God for help.

As Heather worked on her nails, Becky picked up an old magazine and began flipping through it. She stopped when she saw a photo of one of the models. Heather noticed and asked why Becky was looking at the picture so closely. Becky explained that the woman in the photo was a close friend who had once been a Vogue cover model.

That simple moment opened the door. Becky began sharing part of her friend’s story and how she came to faith in God. Heather listened carefully, more interested than Becky expected.

Later, Becky travelled away for a while. When she returned to Ireland, she found out that Heather had moved to a new location. Looking back, Becky said, “I had asked God to provide an opportunity to share the gospel, and He did!”

Becky had looked to God for help in her weakness, much like the apostle Paul did. Paul pleaded with God to remove the thorn in his flesh, but the Lord answered him, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Paul learned that God could be trusted in every part of life, both in the great struggles and in the quiet, ordinary moments.

The same is true for us. When we depend on God to help us love the people around us, He can guide our words, soften hearts, and open doors we could never force open ourselves. Sharing our faith doesn’t always begin with a perfect speech. Sometimes it begins with prayer, a small step of courage, and a simple conversation.

When has God helped you to share your faith with someone? How could you pray for someone today whom you wish would come to know God?

Loving Jesus, You work through my weaknesses to bring glory to Your Father. Move in my life today, that I might share Your good news of grace.
