21 Jun: Victory Belongs to God

The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord. Proverbs 21:31

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 21:21–31

Drummer Boy was one of 112 horses that carried British soldiers into battle during the Charge of the Light Brigade. Though the mission failed, his courage and endurance stood out so much that Lieutenant Colonel de Salis believed the horse deserved a medal, just like the brave men who rode into battle. The bravery shown by both the men and their horses became part of history and is still remembered today.

His story points us to an old Bible truth: “The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord” (Proverbs 21:31). Preparation matters, but the final result is always in God’s hands. We can train, plan, and work diligently, yet success ultimately comes from Him.

Moses told Israel, “For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!” (Deuteronomy 20:4). Paul also wrote, “Thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:56–57).

We still have a part to play. We study, pray, work, practice, and prepare for what God has called us to do. But after we have done our part, we must trust Him with the outcome.

Our confidence is not in our strength, plans, or abilities. It is in the Lord who goes with us. Through Christ’s love, we are “overwhelmingly victorious” (Romans 8:37).
