27 Jun: A Life That Still Speaks
All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them. Acts 9:39
Scripture Reading: Acts 9:36–42
Martha spent more than thirty years serving as a teacher’s aide in an elementary school. Each year, she quietly set aside money so she could buy new coats, scarves, and gloves for students who needed them. When she passed away after battling leukemia, we held a celebration of life in her honour. Instead of bringing flowers, people donated hundreds of winter coats for the children she had cared for so faithfully.
During the service, many shared stories about how Martha encouraged others with her gentle words and thoughtful actions. Her fellow teachers continued her example by organising a yearly coat drive for three years after she was gone. Even now, her kindness continues to influence people to care for those who are struggling.
In Acts 9, Luke tells the story of Dorcas, a woman who was“always doing good and helping the poor” (verse 36). When she became ill and died, the community was heartbroken and asked Peter to come. The widows showed him the garments Dorcas had made and spoke of how she had lived a life of service (verse 39). Moved with compassion, Peter prayed, and God restored her life. News of what happened spread quickly, and “many people believed in the Lord” (verse 42).
Dorcas’ life showed what love looks like in everyday actions. Her generosity left a mark on her community long before the miracle, and her example still reminds us how deeply simple acts of care can touch the lives around us.

Reflect & Pray
How can you love someone with your kind words and deeds today? How has God used someone else’s kindness to draw you closer to Him?
Loving God, please help me to love others in practical ways each day so I can leave a legacy of kindness that points others straight to You.
